tim-spam Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 From personal experience with company pool car fleets, I would avoid French cars like the plague. You may, however, be one of the lucky ones, and it certainly looks like a good buy, although it always pays to test drive it first. Quote
greg_68 Posted June 14, 2006 Author Report Posted June 14, 2006 One of the reasons I like the look of the Picasso is that our site is littered with questions on faults that seem to be repeated over and over again on cars of all ages, indicating an inherent problem with any age car i.e aux heater, aicon etc. Reading through the sister Picasso site there doesn't seem to be the same sort of mass postings about the same fault. Most of the negative posts on there seem to stem around the build quality of trim inside the cabin. It is more important to me to have a reliable car mechanical wise than for the trim to be my main concern. I do admit that the trim in the Galaxy is far superior to that of the Picasso but then you are paying a hell of a lot more. All replies gratefully received. Quote
Davetheref Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 I had a Picasso before my 2 galaxy's. I got it just when they first came out. It was ok but I was never 100% happy with it. The driver seat never felt comfortable and i always seemed to be moving around in the seat on long journeys (maybe it was my piles lol). The car itself was, well, just ok again. Never had any mechanical problems and everything worked ok but there is no comparison betwen the ride and comfort factor of a Galaxy and I hope you dont miss it too much. That is half the trouble with having a Gal. Where do you go to get something as comfortable and a great ride after they are gone as I'm not sure about the new ones yet. Quote

That is exactly my point of view, I am however willing to forsake a little comfort for reliabilty. Quote
Davetheref Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 I forgot to add Greg that I have had no problems at all with my 2 Gal's either. Maybe I've just been lucky. Quote

mumble_bee Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 mate of mine has 2 picasso(s) <--- hmm how do you pluralise it ? or is it even plural - do they have a double before the plural in french ?I dunno, I know in arabic there is a double then a plural... anyway... since I live in luton, I take most of my london friends' cars off them for their regular servicing and whatnot. I would have to say- excellent drive, great car, great efficiency, but SERIOUSLY poor seats. The cabin is tremendously spacious, takes a bit of getting used to whilst parking.. but otherwise grrrreeat. but dont take the comfort factor too lightly, after driving my mates 54 plate for 2 days my back was hurting.. its a nice car for a lass tbh... Apart from the obvious anti-Citroen posts what do you guys think. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2004-CITROEN-XSARA-P...1QQcmdZViewItemI think you need to learn a little about ebay..... NEVER BID until the last 30 seconds or less and go in with your maximum bid. Don't look back until after the auction has finished, that way you get the item for the lowest possible price and you're not tempted into a bidding war. Regards - JB Quote
mumble_bee Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 jb greg's very experienced at ebay... and btw I also prefer to bid from the beginning and make my intentions clear I never go above what I wanna pay, and I'm never so in love with anything that I couldnt bid on another Quote
tim-spam Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 If it's reliability that's most important to you, why on earth are you even considering a French car? For maximum reliability, there's only one way to go...... Japanese. However, as you're replacing a complicated ten year old car that has had some problems with a simpler 2 year old car, there should be some improvement in reliability, even if it is French - just don't count on it too much. Regards - JB John I could take exeption to your comments as I have sold and bought approximately 1000 items since Christmas, so I like to think I know a bit, anyway it's your view and you are welcome to it. There are million ways to bid on Ebay and none of them are universally error proof. As some history I have won this car before twice but it never meets the reserve which I think is about Quote
tim-spam Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 Reliability surveys - now, there's another can of worms. We use them where I work, and they say at least as much about the owners as they do about their cars. For example, in one survey for MPV's, the Sharan came only just above the Espace and Voyager (and they were the bottom 2), the Galaxy somewhere just below average, and the Alhambra only just behind the Japs. Perhaps it's because the Portugese take more care in assembling the Seats....... er.... I don't think so. These differences can only be caused by one or more of several things such as:1) The dealerships (very likely).2) The owners' expectations (also very likely)3) The model mix - non-diesel Alhambras are as rare as hen's teeth (possible).4) Specification - perhaps more Alhambras are sold with lower specification and are therefore simpler (doubtful). If you want to hear some good stories about French cars, speak to someone who works in Engineering for Nissan - they are now tied up with Renault, and one I spoke to said that the average Renault would not be allowed out of the Nissan factory. Guest Cepheus Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 French car eh? Just remember then that it's mother was a hamster and it's father smelt of elderberries! Ni! <_< Quote
NikpV Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Picasso  - but it looks like an Easter egg ;) Quote
Ronnie W. Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 I bought a Picasso after my first Galaxy but to get comfortable seats I had to go for the leather trim they were much more supportive, the cloth seats seemed too soft. I only changed the Picasso because it struggled with our caravan Quote

El Dingo Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Gregers is right - Zaffy would be better (and MUCH more reliable) than a Picasso. Quote
gregers Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 zafys seem to hold there value a dam sight better then a picasso, just check out your local car dealers, also the pic is only a 5 seater where as the zafy is a 7 albeit for the kids, and they do seem to be very reliable as there dosent seem to be a zafira forum anywhere(well i aint seen one)complaining about reliability issues. regards gregers Quote
mumof4 Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Gregers is right - Zaffy would be better (and MUCH more reliable) than a Picasso. And gregers would never be biased now would he.....nnnooooooooooo  :o Quote
gregers Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 :o who meid like another galaxy in deisel if and when i could afford it,the zaffy is limited on space(it wont take all my tools)easily unlike the gal but i dont have to take the seats out and store them somewhere, but the rear seats are really only for young ones or those people who are verticaly challenged,i tried sitting in the rears,i didnt think it was possible to get in the postion i got in(im talking karma sutra here) :o and im only 6ft 2ins.
